Ready to find the right shoe for you? Let’s go…

Asics GEL Nimbus 19

Asics Gel Nimbus 19

The Asics GEL Nimbus is without a doubt our favourite running shoes for those trying to recover from a bout of plantar fasciitis.

While it may look similar to the previous version of the shoe it takes everything we loved with previous versions and builds on it.

The cushioning is exceptional, all the traditional Nimbus ride comfort is there in part, thanks to the use of Asics FlyteFoam midsole technology.

Stability is good and most impressive is the weight of the shoe. It’s almost unbelievable that a shoe with this much cushioning can be so light – while the men’s version weighs 315 grams, the women’s weighs in at a feather light 252 grams.

It’s easy to see why this is such a popular marathon training and racing shoe!

So What Can Be Done?

Interestingly it’s a condition that affects 1 in 10 people and it becomes more common with age. While it can strike anyone, the condition is very common in runners given the amount of foot striking involved in the sport.

If you’re currently suffering then the best treatments are rest, stretching, physio and of course, to speak to your physician.

You may also need to change your running shoe to a softer fasciitis shoe such as the Brooks Adrenaline GTS.

While you could have worn a certain shoe style for years, if you hope to cure your condition then chances are, you’ll have to change your shoes. That’s why we put together a list of best shoes for plantar fasciitis.

Are These The Best Running Shoes For Heel Pain Too?

Many people find that while they might not have a case of full blown plantar fasciitis, they do experience some heel pain when they run. The good news is that the list of shoes above are perfect for other conditions such as heel pain, heel spurs and even for those runners with achilles tendonitis.

For those who maybe don’t run as much but still suffer from the condition (particularly if they have a manual job), our list of sneakers should really help them too.

New Balance shoes for plantar fasciitis – the perfect match?

It’s no surprise that each year when we compile our list of the best sneakers for plantar fasciitis that one brand tops the list time and time again – New Balance. The brand is famous for producing shoes that fit well and offer an outstanding level of cushioning.

New Balance really do put a heck of a lot of research and development time into each model they bring out. They also seem to care about a runners foot and often offer not just the softest sneakers but the widest and most technically advanced shoes on the market.

Brooks Adrenaline Range

The Adrenaline is one of the best brooks shoes for plantar fasciitis.
Over the past few years, New Balance hasn’t had it all their own way. The new kid on the block (when it comes to plantar fasciitis shoes anyway) is Brooks. Brooks have been putting some serious research and development time into building the most comfortable range of shoes on the market and while not quite there, they are getting closer to becoming one of the best brands of shoes for plantar fasciitis.

Why The Right Running Shoes Matter

While some runners find that the additional arch support provided by orthotic inserts can help reduces some of the heel pain when they run, the best form of prevention is to run in shoes that offer good arch and ankle support.

As someone who has suffered from plantar fasciitis, I know that finding the best running fasciitis shoes are absolutely key to helping manage the condition. Ensuring that you have the proper arch, Achilles, and ankle support can really make a world of difference. WebMD has a fantastic article on understanding the plantar and really helps to understand more about the condition.

Properly treating the condition deserves a blog article in its own right, the infographic below provides some very helpful tips on how to manage your feet:

What Are The Best Walking Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis?

We recently received an email from Kate who’d been suffering for years!

We’ll let Kate tell you her story:

Kate, TX

I work as post-lady and that means a lot of walking! Over the course of a few months I’d find that my left heel began to ache more and more until eventually I had to take time off work sick.

My employer put me in contact with a fantastic physio who diagnosed me with suffering from plantar fasciitis. After a course of treatment, doing my daily exercises and resting properly I was able to return to work but soon the condition started to return.

Speaking to Luke my physio he suggested that I buy a pair of cushioned running shoes to wear for work and sent me a list of resources where I could find running/walking shoes for plantar fasciitis.

After doing my homework I bought myself a pair of New Balance walking shoes which are ideal for my condition.

Since I ditched my old, clumpy work boots for a pair of running trainers I’ve not experienced any pain under my heel.

Conclusion

A painful plantar fascia really is no fun, the pain in your heel can leave you sore, frustrated and worst of all out of action for extended periods of time.

While you should always consult with your physician, one of the best ways to eliminate the pain is to invest in a good pair of running shoes that offer adequate arch, Achilles, ankle and heel support. It’s also worth checking the bio-mechanics of your foot as many runners also find that they really struggle with flat feet.
