The adidas Supernova Sequence 9 is the latest premium stability shoe from adidas. Offering an outstanding level of comfort and cushioning, the Supernova Sequence 9 is a great shoe for those looking for a running shoe with extra cushioning.
While it’s certainly not the sleekest of shoes, at just 312g / 11oz. it’s certainly not a heavyweight.
For those already familiar with cushioned shoes such as those from HOKA ONE ONE you’ll be pleased to know that this shoe delivers a soft, positive ride without any sponginess during the gait cycle.

adidas Supernova Sequence 9 First Impressions
The fit is secure, comfortable and (as you might expect), cushioned.
For me, sizing ran true – I normally run in an 11 and the 11 in the Supernova Sequence 9 fit like a glove.
The shoe features a 10mm heel-toe drop and is great for both forefoot and heel strikers.
The Good: The ride is incredibly comfortable, light and supportive. adidas have put real thought into the midsole and cushioning in this shoe.
The Bad: The shoe is a little stiff and does take some breaking in until it’s truly comfortable when running. Some runners might also find the 30mm toebox a little too high for comfort.
The Verdict: If you’re looking for a soft shoe to wear on your weekly long run or looking for something different to wear on recovery runs then this is certainly for you.

adidas Supernova Sequence 9 Upper
The upper of the Supernova Sequence 9 feels snug without being overly snug like you might find with something like a HOKA. While the upper holds tight to your foot, there’s no pinching.
The lacing system keeps a constant pressure thanks to the synthetic overlays and STABLEFRAME the mesh upper that holds everything securely in place.
Unlike the Vengeful, the eyelets on the Supernova Sequence 9 are separate from the main upper which provides additional comfort and helps to pull everything together.
The toebox feels roomy thanks to additional widening and heightening. Personally, I like this as I find that the day after a race my feet ‘feel’ bigger, so the extra room is always welcome.
adidas Supernova Sequence 9 Sole
adidas have once again wisely chosen to use Boost foam in the midsole which helps give the shoe a good level of cushioning when striking.
Along with Boost technology, adidas have decided to once again use Continental rubber which I’m a huge fan of! It seems to grip well on the majority of surfaces and while it hasn’t historically lasted beyond 500 miles, this is something we’re happy to compromise on given just how good the sole is.
Who Should Buy These Shoes?
If you’re looking for a great alternative to either the HOKA ONE ONE Clifton 2 or the ASICS Gel-Kayano range then the Supernova Sequence 9 is certainly for you.
The ride is fantastic, the stability is excellent and the cushioning is awesome.
Personally, I’ll be adding the Supernova Sequence 9 to the few shoes that I ‘live with’, it’s fantastic on long runs and helps provide a comfortable ride when legs are tired and aching.
