Salomon Wings Pro Trail Running Shoes

After crafting shoes for the better part of 60 years, Salomon has gotten it down to an art. With roots that go all the way back to the French Alps in 1947, Salomon is no stranger to the shoe needs of an outdoor enthusiast.

With that being said, the Wings Pro Trail Running shoe, sitting at a mid-level price range, is a stability shoe that is recommended for runners that are prone to moderate pronation. It was engineered to conquer the outdoors through trail, mountain and off-road rides. It has a midsole that is perfect for stability, while the outsole combines a surplus of rubber and cushioning that makes it perfect for the trail.

On its third update, the Wings shoes are known for their stability, durability, cushioning, versatility and sleek design. Because the design has been favorable in the past, the Pro didn’t need much updating.

Salomon Wings Pro Upper

As mentioned above the shoe is crafted with moderate outdoor activity in mind, thus, a strong upper is necessary. Because the Pro faces the elements like snow and rain, it features an open mesh layer that is designed to keep the foot dry and cool. It also has a tongue cover, Quicklace system for speedy one pull tightening, lace pocket and a rubber toe cap.

The Quicklaces are constructed from military-grade Kevlar fibers, and runners can hide laces by tucked them into the lace pocket. The toe cap actually causes an extension in the forefront, but that’s a tradeoff for excellent side protection.

The Wings Pro’s upper also features Sensifit overlays, Ortholit and Strobel Last technology. The Ortholit is an excellent addition because it helps to keep the inside of the shoe healthy, cool and odor free by eliminating microbial elements, while the Sensifit hugs and contours with your foot beautifully.

The fit is believed to be approximately half size larger, which allows more room for lateral movements. In combination with the extension from the toe cap, we recommend going a half size smaller, but as usually, always try on these shoes first.

Salomon Wings Pro Sole

The higher density foam in the midsole adds stiffness and bulk, but also helps to improve stability and motion control. It offers medial support to keep runners from being vulnerable to pronation. The midsole also contains molded EVA underfoot and a EVA footbed. It provides full coverage from forefoot to the heel, and adds to cushioning and softness.

Additionally, the AC Skeleton in the midsole reduces lateral movement, and creates a smoother heel-to-toe transition. It forms a thermoplastic unit and extends from mid-foot through the heel.

The Salomon Wings Pro was created to face rugged terrains. The outsole construction contains AC Tendon and Contagrip HA (high abrasion) and Contagrip. AC Tendon creates an excellent return on heel strikes, while Contragrip HA insures high abrasion and Contragrip supplies grip and traction. Together these elements provide extra padding and rubber that protects feet from bruising, while working in tandem increasing traction and durability.

The Pro also features wide Chevron lugs that live on the outsole, which help to increase grip and help combat the elements, as well.

Summing up, if you are active in an array of outside activities this is the shoe for you. The technologies in the Pro’s construction absolutely justify its price tag. The Salomon Wings Pro’s ability to be used as a multi-functional outside shoe makes it an excellent addition to any outdoors enthusiast’s closet. Offering stability, durability, cushioning, versatility and sleek aesthetics in a single model makes the Pro a top contender in the hiking and trail running arena.
